Home Versus Northern Rangers – May 28 2011

DEVONPORT STRIKERS V’s NORTHERN RANGERS

Reserves match report

Saturday May 28, 2011

Saturday saw the final round of matches played for the first half of the season. Devonport were hoping to continue their dream start to the year with a win over second placed Northern Rangers at Valley Road.

The first half was well contested, with both teams playing some impressive soccer. It was the Strikers who managed to tackle the scoreboard first through some excellent link-up play between the team babies Jesse Curran and Daniel McGinn. Curran controlled the ball well through the centre of the ground and slotted a brilliant pass through to McGinn who carried the ball well before netting past the Rangers keeper with power.

The score remained 1-0 at half-time with Devonport starting to stamp their authority on the game.

Devonport came out firing in the second half with in form striker Kurt Howard blazing 2 goals past the Rangers in the opening 10 minutes. Devonport from then on were in complete control in what could be described as easily their most convincing display of the season.

Congratulations to Joe Philpott for landing the man of the match award.

And congratulations to coach Peter Best and the boys for an excellent match and first half of the year which sees them 7 points clear on top of the table after collecting 27 points after 9 matches, a perfect return.

With the season only at the halfway point Devonport will look to continue its run into next week at Launceston United.
