League 1 versus Launceston United March 20 2011

DEVONPORT STRIKERS V’s LAUNCESTON UNITED
Birch Avenue, Launceston
League 1 Match Report

Sunday March 20, 2011

The Division 1 competition got underway on Sunday with the Strikers travelling to Birch Avenue to take on a young and physical Launceston United team. It was a dream start for the Strikers with high profile recruit Snow Compagne putting them 1-0 up after just 5 minutes. From that point Launceston United lifted and started to apply pressure to the Strikers defence & a defensive blunder allowed United to level the scores after 20 minutes. The Strikers started to settle and play themselves back in to the game & as half time approached both sides had some good chances to grab the lead. The Strikers came out after the break a more composed team and took control and the lead of the game thanks to goals from Joe Philpott and Snow Compagne (from a very tight angle). The quick ball movement from Devonport was causing headaches for the Launceston United defence. Another defensive mix up allowed united to get a goal back, but any chance of a comeback was extinguished when Grant Mead and Jesse Embrey both scored to make it 5-2. The strikers were going home with all the points after a great team effort.
