DEVONPORT STRIKERS V’s LAUNCESTON UNITED
Under 18’s match report
Saturday March 26, 2011
The U18′s second match for the season got underway with the strikers up against Launceston United. In the early minutes of the match, Devonport were having trouble getting into the flow of the game and were struggling to maintain possession, giving Launceston plenty of attacking chances early on.
The unforced errors continued until Launceston United made the most of it, breaking through the midfield and forcing a lot of pressure on Devonport’s defence. The first shot on goal was brilliantly saved by Mathew Griffiths, but unfortunately the rebound was easily slotted away in the bottom right hand corner, giving United a deserved 1-0 lead which they took into half-time.
From the start of the second half of the game, Devonport were starting to play the ball around quite well and were creating a lot of dangerous chances in the early stages, questioning United’s defence, but sadly they failed to put a goal away.
The strikers were starting to tire to the end of the match, giving Launceston plenty of chances to secure a second goal. After a number of strong attacks, United put the ball in the back of the net for the second time, which led to the final score of 2-0.
A frustrating game for the boys, with the first loss of the season. They will be looking to improve their performance for the next upcoming match against Somerset.
