Away versus Ulverstone – May 7 2011
DEVONPORT STRIKERS V’s ULVERSTONE
Reserves match report
Saturday May 7, 2011
Saturday 7th May saw Devonport continue in its winning ways with a hard fought win over Ulverstone. Devonport controlled the early stages of the match scoring twice through captain Casimir Douglas in the first 10 minutes. It seemed Devonport thought they had done enough and took their foot off the gas. Ulverstone took advantage of this and began to play some good football in patches and brought one goal back on the verge of half time from a free kick. 2-1 was the score at the break and the disappointment was evident of the faces of our boys who knew they should be doing better.
The second half showed a lot more promise as the standard of Devonport’s game lifted. It wasn’t long before Jesse Curran improved the score line to 3-1 from a nice bit of play followed by a well-directed shot from the top of the box. The game settled down from this point until the final five minutes when another free kick brought Devonport undone. With the score at 3-2 the final exchanges were physical and intense. Devonport managed to hold on for the win and continue their season record to six wins from six.
Stand out performances came from Jesse Curran and Josh Gleeson who was excellent in his return to the side.
This weekend sees Devonport playing at Riverside hoping to continue its good form.
