Home versus Prospect Knights – April 16 2011

DEVONPORT STRIKERS V’s PROSPECT KNIGHTS
Reserves match report
Saturday April 16, 2011

Devonport managed to continue its stranglehold on the competition with a hard fought win over a physical and determined side from Prospect. The match was highly competitive with the score finishing 2-1, with all three goals being scored in the final 15 minutes. Devonport welcomed to their side Connor Lizotte, Grant Ashdown and Simon Wilson all back from the senior team. Devonport controlled the majority of possession and did well in defence to hold off some meaningful passages of play by their opposition. The match looked like heading for a 0-0 stalemate before Casimir Douglas safely slotted the ball past prospect’s goalkeeper to give Devonport the lead with only 15 minutes left on the clock. The lead was only short lived as the visitors drew level only a few minutes later. From then onwards, Devonport were fierce in attack and created multiple scoring chances. It wasn’t until Jacob Hillyer made his way forward from the back to send in a deep cross from right wing that found its way over the keeper and at the feet of Grant Ashdown who smacked home the winner from a tight angle with only a minute left on the clock. Key performances came from goalkeeper Josh Smith, Joe Philpott and man of the match Grant Ashdown. Devonport remain on top of the ladder with 4 wins from 4 games and now look forward to a week off before their first away match of the season against Burnie United.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Grant Ashdown
